Note: Please read all the WARNINGS below. 

NOTE: Stromberg pump check valves can only be replaced with the carburetor removed from the intake manifold. However, if you are experienced with Stromberg service and repair, and want to keep a multi-carb linkage in place, an alternative is to remove just the carburetor bowl and airhorn, leaving the base casting in place on the manifold. Always make sure there is no fuel remaining in the carburetor fuel bowl.

PARTS REPLACEMENT

a) Using the wide blade screwdriver, remove the center bowl plug (43) and its gasket (44) from beneath the float bowl. Now switch to the narrow blade screwdriver and remove the old accelerator pump check valve, located behind that center plug.

b) Make a visual check, as best you can, on the condition of the pump check valve’s threaded hole and mating surface in the casting. The valve doesn’t use a gasket so relies on a good seat in the casting. If you have a problem, you’ll need to fix it before continuing. If it all looks OK, simply install the new pump check valve. At Stromberg, we use a small electricians screwdriver with a split blade clamp that holds the valve on the end of the screwdriver while we line it up in the hole. Once in place, we tighten it in with the normal screwdriver. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN the valve in the casting

c) Now fit a new ring gasket (44) to the center bowl plug (43) and install it back into the casting. Take care to avoid cross- threading the plug into the casting. Packs of 10 new bowl plug gaskets are available from your Genuine Stromberg dealer. Ask for kit 9563K.

WARNING: A thorough knowledge of carburetor function and repair is required. Therefore, Stromberg recommends that rebuilding and installation be performed only by a professional auto mechanic. An improperly rebuilt or installed carburetor may cause poor performance or lead to property damage, personal injury, or death, and may void your warranty.

WARNING! When replacing the carburetor onto the engine, always ensure you have connected all of the linkages – throttle, choke, accelerator pump – and fuel lines correctly. Manually operate the throttle lever and choke mechanism to ensure free movement. Any sticking, binding, or ‘over-center’ movement in the linkage could result in uncontrolled engine speed, property damage, serious personal injury, or death.

WARRANTY
While the individual parts in this Service Kit are covered by the Stromberg Carburetor Limited Warranty, the use of this Service Kit does not guarantee that the rebuilt carburetor will deliver correct performance and economy.
